Domain Name Transfer

Did you ever wish you had all your Domain Names with one Registrar? Support service of your current Registrar does not meet you expectations? If answer is YES, than Domain Name Transfer is your first choice solution.

Before we start talking about Domain Name Transfer and sharing some tips and guidelines with you to make the process itself easier, let’s see first what Domain Name Transfer means at all. Domain Name Transfer is a process of giving away the rights for the registered Domain Name from one official Registrar to another. How simple is that? But don’t be fooled, there are always some underwater rocks on your way. And we’d love to show you how to avoid them and how to prevent some unpleasant experience during the process of Domain Name Transfer.

First of all, here are some things you should always keep in mind and double check their status before you start the Transfer.

Of course, the very first step is to make sure that your Domain Name can be transferred at all.

Domain Name should be always at least 60 days old. It’s required by ICAAN Regulations which are applied to every single accredited Registrar and your request about transfer just will be rejected.

Domain Name has not been transferred from one Registrar to another 60 days back or less. You are required to wait a 60 days’ time period since you transferred your Domain Name for the last time or your request also will be rejected.

You have to make sure that your have not Locked your Domain Name on your administration area provided by your current Registrar or that the Registrar has not applied Lock or Hold status to your Domain Name due to some reasons, in which case you have to contact your Registrar support team to resolve the issue before you can proceed any further with the transfer request.

And, of course, you have to make sure that your Domain Name is not in Redemption Grace Period or Pending Delete State. Once the Domain Name is expired it goes into Renewal Grace Period which is 40 days for most Domain Name extensions and it can be renewed at normal costs. If the Domain Name has not been renewed during Renewal Period it will be Deleted and will go into Redemption Period which is 30 days and during which only the original Domain Name Registrar can Redeem the Domain Name. As the mentioned above periods expire, the Domain Name goes into Pending Delete State period for 5 days, and then it’s available for registration again.

The rules we have just described will fit the majority of Domain Names. But there are always some exceptions for different Domain Name extensions. For instance the different number of days in Renewal or Redemption Periods for .EU, .INFO etc. domain extensions. Or you cannot transfer Domain Name with extension .WS at all. You don’t have to worry about Lock/Hold feature for .EU/.UK domain names because the EU Registry does not support it.

transfers   Your next step will be getting the Domain Secret or Authorization Code for your Domain Name which is an extra security feature. Auth Code is assigned by Registrar to each Domain Name when it’s been registered to make sure that only the owner of the Domain Name can transfer it. Most of the time you can find the Code just logging into your administration area provided by your Registrar or you can request it using the support contact information.

Well, if your Domain Name falls under all key points and you have gotten all necessary information you needed, it’s time to start the transfer. Make sure that your Domain Name will not expire in the next 14 days, that’s how many days the average transfer takes. Also double check that your contact information for the Domain Name is correct, the transfer is based on email verification.

Your last step will be to go to the web page of the new Registrar of your choice and make a request for Domain Name Transfer paying all fees that the Registrar might apply. You will receive an email with the instructions and all necessary information that you will need to complete the Transfer. You’ll get an access to the Transfer Authorization Page where you’ll have to provide the transaction ID, Auth Code and Domain Name you wish to transfer and all other information which you receive in email. The actual Domain Name Transferring will be initiated, and remember, you cannot go back once the process has started. As soon as the Transfer is approved by your old Registrar you’ll receive an email notification from your new Registrar and your Domain Name Transfer will be completed.
